DANTE ALIGHIERI

Il disegno è ripreso da una rarissima xilografia tratta dal libro stampato a Firenze nel 1506 da Filippo Giunta dal titolo “Cantica del divino poeta Danthe Alighieri fiorentino” con commenti di Cristoforo Landino; venne realizzata dalla bottega di Baccio Baldini su disegni di Sandro Botticelli. La stampa raffigura Beatrice che discorre con Dante sotto uno sfondo di stelle (settimo cantico del Paradiso, “cielo di Mercurio”), mentre gli -“... mostra come la vendetta fatta per Tito de la morte di Gesù Cristo nostro Salvatore fue giusta, essendo la morte di Gesù Cristo giusta per ricompensamento de l'umana generazione e solvimento del peccato del primo padre.”- C. Landino, Firenze, 1481. Il significato della famosa frase “Pape Sàtan, pape Sàtan aleppe” rimane ancora oggi un mistero. Ho trasformato le stelle in azzurro e le iniziali dei protagonisti in rosso, per dare un leggerissimo stile PopArt alla rappresentazione del capolavoro dantesco che, forse, sarebbe piaciuta al sommo poeta; grande e visionario innovatore del suo tempo.

The drawing is taken from a very rare woodcut taken from the book printed in Florence in 1506 by Filippo Giunta entitled "Canticle of the divine poet Danthe Alighieri florentine" with comments by Cristoforo Landino; it was made by Baccio Baldini's workshop based on designs by Sandro Botticelli. The print depicts Beatrice speaking with Dante under a background of stars (seventh canticle of Paradise, "heaven of Mercury"), while - "... shows how the revenge made by Tito for the death of Jesus Christ our Savior was right, since the death of Jesus Christ is just for the reward of the human generation and absolution of the sin of the first father. "- C. Landino, Florence, 1481. The meaning of the famous phrase" Pape Sàtan, pape Sàtan aleppe" remains a mystery today. I turned the stars into blue and the initials of the protagonists in red, to give a very slight PopArt style to the representation of Dante's masterpiece which, perhaps, would have pleased the highest poet; great and visionary innovator of his time.
